SHAG RUG CLEANING

DROP-OFF & SAVE

Shag rug cleaning can be an expensive project as they’re the most difficult kind of rug to clean. The process is very labor-intensive and it requires more time, detergent and energy than other rugs do. That’s why at Babash we offer a discount for customers who can drop their rugs off at out facility.

100% ORGANIC

You read right. Our entire process is eco-friendly and uses no harsh chemicals. In fact, we make our own detergent here, from scratch, out of 100% organic ingredients. No rug invites being laid down on more than a Shag rug, and we have the perfect healthy deep clean for it!

DEEP CLEAN

Surface cleaning a shag rug is as good as useless and trying to wash it at home is impossible. Only through a deep process washing process like ours can the contaminants be removed from deep within the long heavy piles of a shag rug.

Step 1: Inspection

Your rug is carefully analyzed and photographs are taken of every inch and corner of the rug, front & back. Here we prepare a custom solution for your rug based on the construction, fabric and condition of the rug. If any stains require pre-treatment, this is where we apply our decades of experience to find the right solution for your particular needs. In this case, none were required. With shag rug cleaning, the difficulty is in using the right amount of force. You may have noticed that your shag rugs lose their shape after cleaning. This is because most shag rugs are tufted. A good rug cleaner always wants to maintain a good balance of force and grace to make sure they don’t damage the structural integrity of it.

Step 2: Full Water Immersion, Front & back

Our technicians fully emerge your rug in a large pool of water. During this step, our technicians carefully hose down both the front and the back of your rug until it is fully immersed in a fresh cold water bath. We only use cold water to ensure dye safety. This step unsettles the trapped soils and pollutants lodged deep inside of your rug. Every rug is soaked in water individually and we use French drains to ensure the rug is under a constant stream of fresh water. This full immersion can never be done by a carpet cleaner, and should never be done at home for reasons that we will describe later on.

Step 3: Hand Wash

We utilize specialized hand brushes (and a whole lot of elbow grease!) to thoroughly clean the edges, corners and fringes of your rug. Hand washing allows us to pay careful attention to detail and reach areas of the rug that machinery cannot. While this shag rug doesn’t have fringes, it’s still important that the edges and problematic areas are addressed by hand to make sure no detail goes unnoticed.

Step 4: Detergent + Buffer

A customized selection of organic detergents are selected and applied to the rug’s surface area. Some rugs require an enzyme treatment to eat away protein and food bacteria. These enzymes remove stain and bring back the the shininess of your shag rug. Previous detergents and a new set of detergents are now agitated by hand are now worked all around the rug for 5-10 minutes to ensure that the detergent has a chance to absorb all the dust and grime thats been collecting in the rug for years.

Step 5: Detergent Rinse

To eliminate all residue from within the rug, we put your rug through a detergent rinse. This step ensures that as we go through the rest of the steps in our procedure, any mud that’s trapped deep inside isn’t just being moved around to other parts of the rug.

Step 6: Squeegee

This step essentially serves the same function as the previous step. We use flat spades to eliminate remaining trapped detergent and pollutant that our rinsing cycle may have. Detergent attaches itself to dust, grime and fatty tissues within your rug, and with this step we can get most of that out of the rug. In our cleaning videos, you can watch as water comes out dark gray at the beginning of this step. The rug technician will spade your rug several times to helps extract excess water and restore the fibers’ nape to its original position and bring out the rug’s intended design and color pattern. This step is a good example of our no corners cut approach to rug cleaning. Even though it requires more labor than the previous steps, it’s essential to getting extra contaminants out of the dirt, even if only by a little.

Did you know there’s a community of fans who love to watch rug cleaners do this? It’s considered ASMR and highly satisfying. You can check out some satisfying rug cleaning videos on our Instagram.

Step 7: Detergent + Finisher

Here our technicians analyze remaining residue and stains on the rug and come up with a plan to eliminate them in the safest way possible. Starting with high pressure water and moving along to specialized stain removers, our technicians will assess the situation and apply the best solution to the problematic areas. This particular rug had some stubborn traffic stains that some high pressure water applied at the rug angle took care of.

Step 8: Front & Back Rinse

Dirt & grime that has been dislodged during the squeegee procedure is now safely removed from the rug using normal pressure water. Thorough rinsing is one of the most important aspects of good shag rug cleaning. Detergent residue in a rug leads to faster re-soiling. Our multiple rounds of rinsing assures that you rug will stay clean long after it’s been washed.

Step 9: Brush Treatment

Because the high pressure water we used in the previous steps affected the rugs nape (resting direction) we put the rug through one more round of squeegee treatment which eliminated further soil from the rug and also helped to restore the natural nape of the rug’s fabric.

Step 10: Centrifugal Drier

Our centrifuge rotates at a speed of 2,000 times per minute to safely eliminate 98% of the water in the rug within the matter of a couple minutes without the use of high temperature heat which could damage the fibers of the rug. Proper drying times are absolutely crucial to making sure the rug comes and clean and STAYS clean after washing. Leftover detergent residue that dries into the rug after cleaning will quickly reattract soil.  Ever heard of someone complain that their rug became dirty quickly after they had gotten it cleaned? This is why. Our state-of-the-art centrifuge and several rounds of rinsing helps address this issue.

Step 11: Final Vacuum

After the final vacuum, your rug is packaged and delivered & setup back in your home, fresh and beautiful! Get the best in area rug cleaning West Hollywood here at Babash Rug Services.

Summary

The rug is inspected and here stains are noted by Reza and his crew so that the proper solutions are used to clean the rug. Our philosophy is to use the most gentle cleaning methods possible FIRST before we apply more vigorous techniques to prolong the lifespan of the rug and prevent potential damage. We work our way up, from good old water to our powerful duster, only when necessary and only if the rug is in a condition that can handle it. Our organic detergent attracts soil to itself and is rinsed out through several rounds of rinsing and squeegee treatments. This is to assure that detergent does not remain in the rug, which will result in rapid re-soiling. Then our centrifugal drier takes care of 98% of the drying process and the warm California sun takes care of the rest. Within a week, one of the members of our friendly family team will deliver your rug back to your door.

shag rug cleaning

Shag, often referred to as Flokati, rugs are known for their crazy Noodle-like texture, their pile length and their playful style. They come in many varieties of fabrics such as wool, acrylic, polyester, viscose and even leather. One of the most important rugs in your house to keep clean as it’s the one your kids and pets will most likely love to to roll around in. But shag rugs are like microfiber cloth, they pick up everything and don’t let go of them. Loose weave construction + heavy pile on a rug = a major challenge to the rug cleaner. Shag rug cleaning requires a comprehensive process that can eliminate all the contaminants in between the yarn will require a lot of power and a lot of water.  Because of the nature of their construction, the rug can also unravel and lose its structural integrity from improper technique. A rug cleaner with less experience may choose an ineffective shag rug cleaning method to try and avoid damage. That’s why balance is the key to any good rug cleaners craft. At Babash we have over 30 years of experience in dealing with a diverse variety of rugs from all around the world, and cleaning shag rugs is very common for us.

sep-iconA Custom Process For Your Rug

Because they’re made from a wide variety of materials, a custom process is needed to take into account potential hazards before they happen. Shag rugs are among the most popular rugs found in American households. They offer a unique, textured yet minimal design that is durable. However, they are also highly absorbent and this means that they will retain a lot of the contaminants that are in the air and that are left on it through daily use, even more so than rugs already do. It also means that the rugs will retain a lot of water inside of them when they are washed, a double bind for rug cleaners all over the world! With shag rug cleaning, it is important to wash your shag rugs, as needed, and at minimum once every two years, to assure that these contaminants don’t bond to the fabric as it begins to wear away. At Babash, we take all this into consideration to deliver the best cleaning possible. Our system is famous in the community for its effectiveness on Wool rugs as it is carefully overseen by experts with over 30 years of experience and it uses a 100% organic detergent with a mixture of hand and machine labor. Moreover, it is backed by a  centrifugal drier which eliminates about 98% of the water in the rug in a matter of minutes to assure that the rug’s fibers don’t deteriorate, the colors do not bleed and that it doesn’t hold that “wet towel” smell.

sep-iconThe Best of Both Worlds

What’s more effective? The meticulous care of a human operated hand process or the power and technology of a machine operated process? At Babash, you don’t have to choose because you get both. Most Wool area rugs demand a complete water immersion cleaning to be cleaned effectively, just like your clothes do, except that wool fibers tend to trap and hold much more pollutants than your clothes will ever encounter, even though you would wash your clothes at least once a week, if not more.

Our experts are some of the best in the industry, with years of training and experience under their belt. Our advanced machinery is custom designed specifically for our process to allow the best possible results. It’s one of the reasons why customers rave about their rugs once they receive them again, which can look better than they ever remember them looking!
